Job Summary:
The Data Steward is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and security of all organizational data within the Library and Information Science department. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, exceptional analytical skills, and a keen understanding of information management principles. The Data Steward will collaborate with various stakeholders to identify and resolve data quality issues, develop and implement data governance policies, and maintain data standards and procedures.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and enforce data governance policies, procedures, and standards to maintain data integrity and quality.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, define, and document data requirements and business rules for various projects and initiatives.
3. Monitor and analyze data quality issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to resolve them.
4. Create and maintain data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and metadata repositories to ensure accurate and consistent data definitions.
5. Perform regular data audits and reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies or inconsistencies.
6. Develop and maintain data security and access control measures to protect sensitive information.
7. Collaborate with IT teams to design, implement, and maintain data management systems and tools.
8. Provide guidance and support to end-users on data-related queries, issues, and best practices.
9. Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to data stewardship and information management.
10. Assist in the development of data management strategies, policies, and guidelines.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Information Management, or a related field.
2. Proven experience working as a Data Steward, Data Analyst, or in a similar data-focused role.
3. Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and data management principles and best practices.
4. Proficiency in data analysis, data profiling, and data cleansing techniques.
5. Excellent knowledge of database concepts, data modeling, and data integration.
6. Familiarity with data governance frameworks, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
7. Experience with data management tools, such as data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and data lineage tools.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders.
10. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
11. Strong organizational and project management skills.
12. Proficiency in using data management software, databases, and statistical analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, Python).
13. Knowledge of library systems and information retrieval tools is a plus.
